In the world there's three different types of people. The regular humans and then two special types of people that still remain human, but are gifted with certain abilities. So, there's the first one, Shields. Shields are, well, just as their name suggests. They possess particularly strong minds and tend to be rather resilient. They can take great mental strain in any situation. They work to balance out their counterparts. Their counterparts are called Sentinels and their basic function is to fight. They're basically soldiers in the society that this takes place in. Physically strong and can endure great physical hardships. All leaders in the society are Sentinels that are bonded with Shields.

So the plot part is this. Once you hit a certain age, you're brought to the leaders of your district and paired with your counterpart if you're a Shield or Sentinel. If you're a Regular, then you just go about your regular life.

After being paired with your counterpart, you're forced to enter what's called The Command. The Command is almost like an army?? It has experienced Shield/Sentinel pairs at the top of the hierarchy that are teaching the newly bonded pairs how to operate. There's a war going on between Sect 1 and Sect 2. The Command has been formed bc of this war. Newly bonded pairs are being trained to operate as a team and go out on missions to ultimately prepare them for being on the front line. Meld, I imagine, would fit in as probably the official Leaders of the Command. Like they're at the very, very top of the hierarchy so everyone is expecting great things from their children and their children's counterparts.

✄ Vlad isn’t exactly the most pleasant person in the world. Actually, most would call him pretty unpleasant. He often turns away all efforts and offers of friendship.
✄ The kind of person that prefers his own company over that of others. He likes to brood to himself without being interrupted by anyone’s irritating chatting. He doesn’t put up with people blathering on at him.
✄ Gifted with a sharp tongue, he’s quick to lash out verbally at people when they push him too far. I also might mention that it’s incredibly easy to push him too far. He’s not the best at tolerating people.
✄ Also very prone to lashing out physically. When he’s frustrated or angry and can’t be bothered to drive you away with his words, he might just slam your head into a wall. Doing things like that doesn’t take any toll on him whatsoever. You know, as long as he has no attachment to you that is.
✄ Actually a pretty tortured soul, what with the constant intrusive, murderous thoughts he has to deal with. He doesn’t care about hurting people he has no connection to, but he fears hurting his loved ones the most. It’s because of this that he takes out his anger and instability on himself most of the time.
✄ Has a very twisted view on the world as well as a sense of humor. He essentially finds the world around him to be distasteful. Along with that, he often likes to joke about death and getting hurt or getting into an accident.
✄ He doesn’t actually like living, but he doesn’t dislike it terribly. He’s somewhere in the middle. It’s just that he finds most people to be disgraceful, and he can’t stand living with them.
✄ Sardonic to the point of it being ridiculous. Vlad mocks just about everything and everyone with a consistent dull tone. There are very few people that aren’t subject to his cynical monologue.
✄ Lowkey hates himself because he knows he’s a monster and doesn’t deserve anything good in this world, let alone the loving family he has.

Other:
-Scratches at his arms incessantly as a morbid coping method for the intrusive thoughts. He finds that the pain keeps him grounded. His red marks are constantly hidden from view with long sleeves.
-Has only ever said “I love you” twice. Once to Sasha and once to Nerinea. He and Delphi have more of an unspoken respect for each other rather than love.
-Has major trust issues.
-Lived on the streets for a good portion of his life.
