The Kingdom of Serdria.

Once a great island kingdom, differences in beliefs caused a schism, separating Serdria into an Eastern and Western Kingdom. The benevolent rulers of the Eastern Kingdom of Serdria have long tried to unite their peaceful kingdom with the so-called 'barbaric' Western Kingdom. Their people won't have it, and a separatist faction has formed in order to protest against the unification of Serdria. Their first call to order?

Kill the crown prince as an act of defiance and warning to Serdria's beloved king and queen.

Who better to do the job than a woman at the forefront of the separatist faction's shadow operations?

name
Azarias of East Serdria

aliases
Rias

role
Crown Prince of East Serdria

personality
⮚ Maybe it's his looks, maybe it's the way he talks, but he's indisputably charismatic. He has the ability to draw people in and make them open up.
⮚ He's smarter than he looks (and acts). While he may seem dumb, for a lack of a better word, he's actually very perceptive and good at reading people.
⮚ Quick to resort to violence when angered, but he hesitates if he's in front of others - he does care about his reputation, after all. But he won't hold back if he's not in the public eye.
⮚ Fake, artificial, phony - whatever name you have for a person that isn't all they seem on the outside, that's Azarias. The way he acts in public is a farce, and it's definitely not how he acts in private. He has a charming and diplomatic front, but a nasty temper and - to put it nicely - is not kind in the slightest. To put it simply, he's two-faced.
⮚ It takes a lot to get close to him and gain his trust. There's a good chance that he knows when you're lying to him - it takes one to know one, after all.

biography
"Surely, he'll be a great ruler someday."

The firstborn son of the King and Queen of East Serdria, Azarias prepared throughout his life to reign over the kingdom when it became his turn to rule. He had a comfortable life, living in a large castle with an unimaginable wealth. But he wasn't dense -- he knew about what was going on outside the castle's stone walls. Unrest growing within the kingdom, their hatred of his mother and father for their plans to reunite Serdria, growing talks about putting a stop to said plans --

Perhaps this is what they call the calm before the storm.

AZARIAS OF EAST SERDRIA

Lanterns lit up the night, providing light for crowds of people huddled together in East Serdria's marketplace. The hustle and bustle was not lost on Azarias' ear. Contrarily, he was shocked that he hadn't gone deaf yet. There was never a beat of silence; his ears were always occupied by the loud shouts and cheers. The anniversary of Serdria's schism was always a joyous occasion for the population of East Serdria - every year, a night festival in the middle of the marketplace to celebrate the separation from West Serdria and their barbaric culture.

Azarias didn't mind that. He did mind being forced to participate in a conversation with noble, who talked with a great fervor in his eyes about the festival. Topics of conversation that the noble discussed were: the festival's delicious food, the skilled dancers performing for wide-eyed audiences, and how much he wanted the entire population of West Serdria to be set on fire until they were nothing but charred bones.

The audacity of some people.

Azarias glanced to the side, noticing how his parents merely nodded to the noble's statements and shifted their eyes to the side, not offering their views on whether Serdria should unify or not even though everyone knew that they wanted peace and unity. Best not to (further?) fall out of a noble's good graces, a high-ranking one at that.

Azarias was willing to bet that the noble was making a half-added attempt of changing his parents' minds about the unification matter. Good luck, his parents were stubborn folk.

See, he didn't give a rat's ass about whether they reunited the kingdom or not , even though he really should. Although, he felt inclined to agree with his parents because they were his parents and therefore most of the time they were right. Except for when they weren't, but whatever. He glanced down at his sister, who looked equally as excited as he was to be in the conversation (see: not at all). What he would give to be away sampling fruits or whatever at some market stall. To be frank, anywhere would be fine as long as it was away from the rising tension in the conversation, mostly from the vitriolic noble.

Actually, that was a good idea. Motioning to his sister silently that he was leaving, he left without a word, wandering off towards the dancers. He stood in the very back,  hoping that no one would see him. Unfortunately, nearly whitish blonde hair wasn't exactly common in Serdria. But it was dark, so that disguised him somewhat.

"Your highness? Did you need anything?"

He jerked his head up at the voice of . . . someone. He looked downwards. Oh, a servant. He could tell by the uniform. She looked up at him expectantly.

"Fruit from the stalls would be fine. Make it quick."

She nodded and walked off briskly as Azarias once again focused his attention on the dancers. The crowd reveled on into the night.

Sofia Ana Slavik ; Assassin

Crushing dry leaves between her fingers, Sofia rustled them into the breeze and watched them be whisked west. Her gaze followed them until it reached the bright lights of the annual schism festival. Somewhere in West Serdria, the people there must be celebrating with bloody battles and calling it 'honour'. Her upper lip curled. How loathsome. Then she smiled, her smile barely reaching her frozen blue eyes. It was hypocritical of her to hate West Serdria. Not when she had turned into the very ones who murdered her parents.

Ah well, it was not as if she cared.

The breeze became stronger, blanketing her and causing her cloak to billow about. She turned to look at the moondial behind her. Her assistant poked their head out from behind the rooftop's door.

"Johanna, it's time."

She cast one last look at the festival lights. The last time she truly enjoyed it was years ago. Then she turned her back to it and strode over.

"The wretched king and queen will wake up tonight."

The servant fell easily to her hand. Handing the corpse over to her assistant, Sofia gingerly took off the woman's uniform. After exchanging a few quick words with Kasim, she headed off to change. The uniform fit her snugly though she wasn't surprised. The separatists had been planning this for months. Ensuring the cap covered all of her white hair, she headed back out and merged seamlessly with the rest of the servants. Which wasn't too hard considering they were all over the place tonight.

Her gaze travelled to the dancers on stage and she wondered if it would have been better if her disguise was as one of them. The Prince of East Serdria wasn't too much of a chauvinist but she was confident she could...persuade him. But it was too late to deviate from the plan.

The members had told her Azarias wanted fruit from the stalls. The servant meant to get it would be conveniently elsewhere and she would take her place. It didn't any time at all to get a basket of fruits and she was on her way again. She moved quickly but not so fast it would be suspicious. She gritted her teeth when someone copped a feel of her ass. The bodies pushing about weren't terribly pleasant but she bore with it.

All in all, it took about fifteen minutes before she reached the Prince.

"Here are your fruit," she said demurely and tacked on, "Your Highness." She shoved her personal feelings aside at having to (pretend to) serve Azarias and smiled at him.

Hopefully he was dumb enough to not notice it was a different servant, but she could easily explain it away.

"Do you need anything else?" She kept her voice light, looking up at him through her lashes.

AZARIAS OF EAST SERDRIA

It wasn't long before the servant came back with his request of fruit. It wasn't long either before an odd feeling settled itself in his gut.

Azarias wasn't stupid, although he sure did act like it sometimes. His eye twitched ever so slightly at the arrival of the servant, basket of fruits in her arms. She didn't look familiar. Then again, he did not deign to remember the faces of every one of his servants. Perhaps he was mistaken, but his gut told him otherwise. He silently took the basket from her, plucking a single red apple from it.

"Thank you," he responded, a slight smile on his face, "but I can't help but think that you don't look familiar. Possibly it could just be the trickery of my mind, but I'm inclined to believe otherwise."

Was that a bit too forward? Maybe, but it was too late to take back the words now - they had already come out of his mouth. Suspicion filtered into his head - he shouldn't question it, right? After all, it wasn't like he remembered what his servants looked like. However, he wanted something - a confirmation - that would put his thoughts aside.

"Oh," he added, "I don't need anything else, thank you. However, if I may request it, your company for the night will do."

How charming.

Sofia Ana Slavik ; Assassin

Sofia's expression did not change— she was an old pro at this after all. Nor was she surprised. Azarias hadn't proven himself to be a complete airhead thus far, though one could still hope. It did make her job harder though. But she wasn't the head of the shadow faction for nothing. Straightening a little, Sofia allowed a small smile.

"I was transferred here recently from Iia Palace, Your Royal Highness," she answered smoothly.

At his request, her eyes widened slightly. Inside, she was starting to feel a little concerned. Though it would further the plan, she didn't quite like the thought of Azarias being onto something. But there was little she could do without coming off as suspicious so she smiled.

"I, ah— That would be my pleasure, my lord." Looking around, as if unsure of where to position herself, she opted to stand by his side. She weighed out different options in her head before deciding it was best to wait for him to start a conversation. Or something.
